Collector of Memories
Raul Patindol is a collector of memories. He looks back fondly at his life – from an idyllic life in the quiet province of Cebu, to his move to Tanay; painting charcoal portraits by the curbside; learning art together with his artist friends by Daranak Falls. He had watched the dawn and its dew drops on leaves to the sunlight hit the crystal clear water reflecting prisms. From his observations of the natural world around him, Patindol shaped his artistitc reality.
Weaver of Memories
Now he takes on memory and remembrance on a whole new level – a treasured past of our cultural heritage where he draws his most recent works. Patindol sees threads of memories stitched into these objects, and he weaves them together into an assemblage of beautiful Filipinana pamana. He lays out a fine collection of vintage Filipinana dresses, barong tagalogs, shawls crafted from the finest piña and jusi, intricate heirlooms of painetas, tambourines, abanicos. No photograph could capture the intimacy and the intricacy of the set pieces the way Patindol’s eye could – the interplay of light, shadow, and composition. This is how he weaves in the threads of memories in
Patindol breathes life to the inanimate, the dynamism in still life, and the dainty and delicate captured in exquisite detail.
