Born on March 6, 1961, in Sangalong, Manila. Blaine was originally a furniture maker before he decided to be serious about painting. His colors, which carry a lighter mood despite the complex tonal values, are greatly influenced by a close friendship with Romulo Galicano and Sofronio Mendoza. Unique among abstract artists, Blaine’s modern paintings are an example of how counter-cultural art practice can become a completely recognized, embraced, and celebrated form of art by commercial masses with his radical simplification of form and use of geometric shapes to define objects and figures.
